Seeking new members of the Public Sector Accounting Board

The Accounting Standards Oversight Council (AcSOC) is currently seeking new members to appoint to the Public Sector Accounting Board (PSAB).

The AcSOC is looking for experienced individuals with broad vision, a commitment to serve the public interest, an understanding of public sector accounting concepts and financial reporting issues and the ability to anticipate the implications of proposed standards to join the PSAB.

This demanding, but professionally rewarding volunteer role involves a time commitment of approximately 100 to 150 hours per year of preparation and meeting time. PSAB normally meets in person in Toronto four times a year with meetings being two days in length. Additional meetings may be held by conference call. The appointment is for a three year term, commencing April 1, 2010 with a possible extension.

The AcSOC seeks to maintain a balance of different backgrounds and perspectives amongst PSAB’s members. Given PSAB’s membership profile, the AcSOC intends to appoint new members who bring the perspective of a public sector financial statement user (such as a bond rater), a local government finance official and someone with experience in the government fiscal planning environment.

PSAB contributes to better decision-making and accountability by improving the quality of financial information reported by Canadian public sector organizations. The PSAB serves the public interest by developing and establishing standards and other guidance governing accounting and financial reporting domestically, and by contributing to the development of internationally accepted standards.
